My Top 12 NFL Quarterbacks Of All Time – Old And New!

There have been several quarterbacks that have played over the years. I’m sure you’ll think there are others, or someone else who belongs on this list. While that may be true, this is MY tandi dozen, and I stand by them! 🙂

I’ll start with #12 and work my way down to #1. You might think you already know my top 12, but I bet you’ll be a little surprised. These are also not needles in a haystack. Each of them belongs on the list.

I think before I start the list I’ll give you my compliments. This is a handful of quarterbacks that have landed on the periphery of my list. First on that list is Kurt Warner, the arena player turned NFL star. Next up is the star quarterback who won five championships in the 1960s, that guy’s name is Bart Starr of the Packers.

Then there’s Warren Moon who passed for nearly 50,000 yards and was the first African-American quarterback to be elected to the Hall of Fame. The Chargers had Dan Fouts usher in the Air Coriell era that was matched by passing statistics not seen before. Then last but not least is a Bears quarterback named Sid Luckman. He still holds most of the Bears’ records today, retiring in 1950.

Now #12 on my list is Steve Young. The three-time Super Bowl champion replaced the departing J.Montana (who ended his career in KC) and the 49ers never skipped a beat. They just kept winning.

My number 11 is the golden boy of the 1990’s Super Bowl winning Dallas Cowboys. Yep, you guessed it folks. This is Troy Aikman. I think those Super Bowls were more of a team effort, but Aikman certainly contributed to the success process.

I think my number 10 was maybe the most underrated quarterback of his time. I think it’s mostly because of his size believe it or not. He was a scrambler who was not taken seriously as a quarterback. This gentleman’s name was Fran Tarkenton. He didn’t get taken seriously, but his 47,000 yards in his time tied for third all-time. (which has been a few since) His 3 Super Bowl appearances were a blur, losing all 3, but it wasn’t all his fault.

My #9 was a guy who played for the Steelers in the 1970s. In that decade, the Steelers won 4 Super Bowls and could have won 5 without a bit of bad luck. His name is Terry Bradshaw.

In the #8 slot is John Elway’s 2-time Super Bowl win of the Denver Broncos. He was the best example of going out as a winner. He won those 2 Super Bowls in the last two years he played.

Now #7 was T.Bradshaw from the 80’s. The 49er won 4 Super Bowls behind a player named Joe Montana. I think most people know Joe.

The No. 6 player is the man who owns all of the NFL’s passing records. In 20 years, Brett Favre has accomplished more than he ever thought he could. In more ways than one.

Moving to number 5 is the great Johnny Unitas. A lot of people think he was the best of all time. His stats from the 60s could hold up in today’s passing game. His 47 game touchdown streak still stands today.

He is now the #4 best quarterback to never win a Super Bowl, no debate. The 9-time pro bowler is named Dan Marino. He holds all of Miami’s passing records that may never be broken.

My number 3 is no surprise, I’m sure. That’s 3 Super Bowl winner Tom Brady. The Patriots rode the wonder boy for the last ten. I don’t blame them one bit.

The #2 pick will be my #1 when he retires because he will hold all the passing records that B.Favre now has and then some. He is the Colts’ Super Bowl quarterback, Peyton Manning. He gives more to the game than anyone in the history of the game, and it shows.

It is now my number 1 which may come as a surprise to some but not to me. He was a big star for the Browns, before Jim Brown came on the scene. His name is the legendary Otto Graham. In the first 10 years of playing for the Browns, they won 7 championships. His winning percentage record for a starting quarterback still stands at .810 today.

He was 57-13-1 as a starting quarterback. He also played DB for the Browns. His career record while playing for the Browns was an astounding 105-17-4. Yes, those were ancient times, but football success today, as then, is measured by victory. There was no greater winner in football than Otto Graham!

I hope you enjoyed this interesting and informative article as much as I did writing it.
