The Beautifull Game Called Football

Football’s equivalent of the Oscars rolled into London on Tuesday as the first ever FIFpro Awards were announced in front of renowned stars from the worlds of sport, music, screen and even our very own Mark Duffy (but the legality of how to get a ticket is still in doubt!)

Over 38,000 players from 40 countries representing FIFpro took part in the voting, with 55 players shortlisted at the end. After a night of great entertainment, including awards for Ronaldinho (Player of the Year), Wayne Rooney (Young Player of the Year) and Cristiano Ronaldo (Fans’ Young Player of the Year), the World Cup was announced as:

GK: NELSON DIDA (Brazil/Milan

DF: CAFU (Brazil/AC Milan

DF: JOHN TERRY (England/Chelsea)

MF: RONALDINHO (Brazil/Barcelona

MF: FRANK LAMPARD (England/Chelsea)

MF: CLAUDE MAKELELE (France/Chelsea)

MF: ZINEDIN ZIDAN (France/Chelsea

FC: SAMUEL ETO’O (Cameroon/Barcelona)

But do we really care about the ‘official’ team? A team that has 5 players over the age of 30, with a total of 168 years? A team with a certain Zinedine Zidane, who admittedly had an ordinary season for Real Madrid? Of course we don’t because there is only one ‘official’ team that matters and that is Bootroom KSI, voted for by you, the SI public. So, without further ado, in collaboration with Sports Interactive, The Bootroom is proud to present YOUR World of KSI.

Note: Players in each position are listed in ascending order ie. Terry got the most votes for a defender

GK- PETR CEH (Czech Republic/Chelsea): The best goalkeeper in the Premier League, if not in the world. In his first season in England, not only did he pick up his first championship medal, the Czech also set a streak of 1024 minutes without conceding a goal, a new English top flight record. Last season’s fewest goals conceded and most clean sheets not only earned him the ’04/’05 Barclays Golden Gloves, but also the world number one KSI shirt.

DF- JOHN TERRY (England/Chelsea): Jose Mourinho called him ‘the best centre-back in the world’ and who could argue? After winning both the League Cup and the Premier League title, the world class at the back saw Terry also named Player of the Year by his fellow professionals. England’s defeat to Northern Ireland only showed how much the England defense lacked Terry’s leadership and organisation, adding to his claim that he is the best centre-back in the world.

DF- CARLES PUIOL SAFORCADA (Spain/Barcelona): Puyol made his first team debut on 2 October 1999 and has since made the right side of the defense his own. A player who always gives his all, this season Puyol has been linked with a move to the Premiership with Manchester United and Arsenal the leading candidates. At just 27 years old, Puyol is entering his prime, which could see him lead both club and country one day.

DF- ALESSANDRO NESTA (Italy/AC Milan): One of five players to appear in FIFpro and The Bootroom World KSI. Played over 60 goals for his country Nesta is a typical Italian defender, difficult to pass and comfortable on the ball. In his first season with Milan he won the Coppa Italia, the Champions League and the European Super Cup and was unlucky to win a runners-up medal in defeat to Liverpool

DF- GABRIEL HAINCE (Argentina/Manchester United): A £6.9m signing from PSG, Heince has won over fans and pundits alike with his tough tackling and 100% commitment to the task at hand. Taking United’s fans’ player of the year, a nasty injury against Villarreal has ruled the left-back out for the rest of the season, a massive blow for Alex Ferguson’s side.

MF- RONALDINHO (Brazil/Barcelona): Third voted player in FIFpro and Bootroom World XI. What can you say about Ronaldo de Assis Moreira that hasn’t been said? A €27m signing from PSG, the diminutive Brazilian has tricked his way through the best defenses in La Liga and on the international stage. Ronaldinho can sit on the FIFpro World Player of the Year award alongside his FIFA World Player of the Year and La Liga Championship medal, both won last year.

MF- STEVEN GERRARD (England/Liverpool): Gerrard helped lift Liverpool’s fifth European Cup with an inspiring display in Istanbul last season and was therefore selected in your KSI World Cup. With almost 300 appearances for Liverpool, Gerrard won the League Cup (twice), the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup in seven years in the first team. The driving force for Liverpool when Gerrard is at the top of his game is pretty much unstoppable.

MF- FRANK LAMPARD (England/Chelsea): Fourth player to appear in FIFpro and Bootroom World XI. Winning Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, Barkley’s Player of the Year and PFA Supporters’ Player of the Year just goes to show what a season Frank Lampard Jnr has had. The £11m signing from West Ham left many fans and pundits baffled as to why Chelsea were paid so much for the overweight and overrated player. But Lampard’s four years saw him become an established part of the team scoring important goals from midfield.

MF- KAKA (Brazil/Ac Milan): The 23-year-old has really shone this season with a superb first-half performance against Liverpool in the Champions League final. Signed from FC Sao Paulo in 2003, Ricardo Isaacson dos Santos Leite scored 10 goals in 30 appearances as he won the Italian Serie A championship and the European Super Cup in his first season. Kaka’s best position is just behind the striker, where his killer passing and late entry into the penalty area has quickly become his trademark.

FC-ADRIJANO (Brazil/Inter Milan): A must-sign for all football manager players, Adriano Leite Ribeiro showed what a class striker he is with an impressive 15 goals in 16 appearances last season. A powerful and highly skilled striker who seems to have been around for ages, Adriano is still only 23 years old and has an incredible future ahead of him

FC- ANDREI SHEVCHENKO: (Ukraine/AC Milan): Last player to be selected for both FIFpro and Bootroom World KSI. Signed for $26 million from Dynamo Kyiv, Shevchenko will remain one of Serie A’s top strikers. In December 2004, Shevchenko was named European Footballer of the Year after scoring the winning penalty against Juventus in the 2003 Champions League final. Shevchenko can score goals with either foot, has excellent control and pace that often leaves defenders dead.
