If you’ve ever attended a game of Ultimate Frisbee, you’ve noticed that there are a lot of words and phrases being shouted on the courts. Here is a list of commonly used terms to help you better understand what is being said.
Backhand – throw that is most commonly known and that everyone knows how to perform.
Bid – when a player makes an impressive diving attempt for a catch but fails to make the catch.
Blade – when the disc is thrown vertically, not horizontally. these throws are very difficult to catch.
Callahan- catch the puck in the opponent’s end zone while on defense, resulting in a score for your team.
Cold – “be patient.” the term is used to remind the pitcher that he has 10 full seconds to wait for a good pass.
Cutter – position in the team. players making ‘cuts’ to get open for the disc. opposite to the operator’s position.
D- defending or knocking the disc to the ground and preventing your opponent from catching the disc.
Disc Infraza is used to notify players that a game is in play. way to restart the game.
Leg block – when the defender on the thrower is able to deflect the pass with his leg.

Pick- when a player steps between the defender and the person he is defending (unlike basketball, picks are illegal in ultimate).
Pull-up – a long throw that starts each game/point. much like a kickoff in soccer.
Sky-jumping higher than the people around you to catch the disc.
Stall Count – 10 seconds you have to win.
Turn – when the disc falls to the ground or any other change of possession.
Up- a warning that the disc has been thrown into the air. a call usually directed at the defense to look up and get the ‘D’.
