Premier League Predictions and Stats – The Best Sites

Why would you need Premier League stats?

There are many reasons why you might need football statistics. People generally search for football (soccer) statistics and predictions because they want to have a glimpse of what might happen in a big upcoming game or to stay informed or sometimes to make educated predictions and bet with friends.

People look to football statistics sites to indulge in the history of certain rivalries between two teams, to learn about the form of one team or another, or simply to learn more about the depth of what is happening in their favorite game.

Problem with Premier League stats websites

The main problem with looking up these statistics on the web is that many of the websites that display them have focused so much on integrating good, valuable data that very little effort has gone into the design. So the sites may look dated and unattractive, but don’t be put off, these sites often contain some pure gold.

Another problem is that many of these sites have to license their data from the world’s biggest football data providers (sometimes at great cost), a lot of what you find is repeated across many sites, which can make searching for specific data maddening.

The best of the best

Through countless hours of research, I have gone through most of the sites that are out there and available for free. So below is a list of the top of the bunch, unless you plan to become a manager, you won’t need any of the others:

1. Football365 Stats If you’re looking for information that will satisfy 90% of regular users, then look no further. The schedule can take some getting used to, but once you’re up to speed, you can find current and historical data across the Premier League (since 1998) and major leagues and competitions in Europe. You can find this site by searching for football365 on Google and then clicking on the ‘Statistics’ link in the top menu.

The only downside to this site is that the data doesn’t go back past 1998 in most cases, and you’ll have to be determined to get comfortable with how the data is laid out.

Top guy: When you select a season, competition or league table, scroll to the bottom of the page and view the statistics index, here you can find dozens of different tables to show recent form, points, defense and tackle statistics. It’s also a great place to look if you want individual team results rather than league results.

2. BBC Football – There isn’t a huge amount of stats on this site, in fact everything is kept pretty high end and basic, but when it comes to getting fixtures, results, goalscorers and league top goalscorers, it’s the clearest and most reliable place to get them. . To find the site, simply Google BBC Football and click on Premier League on the left.

3. Soccerbase – This site has all the usual stats, odds and upcoming matches, but it has something that most others don’t. On the home page there is a list of upcoming matches, a form indicator and an expert verdict that is among the most credible, especially if you are thinking about placing a bet.

Finding the best bits requires a bit of research, the problem is that there is so much data that could be useful to you depending on what your goal is that sometimes this can cause any statistics website to try to present too much in too little space, but once again your determination will earn you some gold on this site.

Top tip: Where this site really comes into its own is Direct matches statistics. There is nowhere else on the internet to look if you want to see how the two teams have played against each other over the years. The timeline goes back 20 or 30 years, and most of the stats include goalscorers, yellow cards and even players who played in every match. A real trip down memory lane.

4. Soccer Stats – Gives you a great overview of around 20 top leagues in Europe and you can quickly find out the average number of goals scored in each league, as well as easily compare some other top football stats and great summaries at the bottom of each page. You can find the site by typing “soccerstats” into Google.

As usual, you’ll need to be in research mode to get the best out of this site, some of the information is hidden in hard-to-reach places, but the layout is pretty straightforward and your time will be well rewarded for your curiosity.

Top tip: The main advantage of this website is the easy to follow information that can be found on Trends and Timing cards within each of the individual league pages. This will show the most common lines and when in a match teams score most of their goals.

5. Statto – You might not be blown away at first glance, once again the site is more about data than design, but you should never judge a book by its cover. Not only does the league table information go back to 1888, but a quick look and a few clicks on the left menu will show you a whole host of interesting stats, some of which you won’t find anywhere else.

Top tip: The feature I use the most on this site is hidden, but it’s worth a look. If you click on “Tables” in the left menu, you will be shown the current league table with three drop down lists above it. From these drop-down menus you can choose to view the table not only for any league and any season, but uniquely for any week during a given season. So if you want to know what the table looked like at the same stage last season, or the same week in 1984, it’s very easy to do.
